Floor Care Dos:
  • Keep your floors clean by dusting and vacuuming them regularly. We find that Swiffer® and dry Pledge Grabit® cloths are excellent for hardwood floors.
  • Only use a damp mop when mopping is needed, and don’t use excess water.
  • If anything spills on the floor, wipe it up immediately.
  • Keep door mats at the entryways and in front of high-traffic areas like the refrigerator or kitchen sink.
  • Put felt glides on furniture legs to preserve the finish and looks of your wood floors.
  • When moving furniture, carefully lift and place it. Don’t drag your furniture around.

Floor Care Don’ts:
  • Don’t use chemicals like dish detergent, ammonia, bleach, or powdered all-purpose cleaners to clean your floors. These products are too harsh and abrasive.
  • Never use products that have silicone or wax in them. Examples include Endust®, Pledge®, and Murphy’s Oil Soap®.
  • Vinegar and water mix may harm the finish of your floors, so don’t use it.
  • Never let water simply stand on the floor.
  • Avoid walking on your floors in spike heels.
  • If you have heavy furniture, don’t let it rest on the floors on only a hard metal tip or plastic dome.
